Antique Rugs Beauty
After renovating our home and installing wood floors, I needed some rugs to bring warmth to our various living spaces. Upon looking into all the various options and ideas, I fell in love with antique rugs -- namely Persian. Provided they'd been well cared for, it seemed to me that their age actually enhanced their beauty!
Our home was open and bright with high ceilings and huge windows. This natural lighting only served to enhance the vibrant colors of the style of antique rugs I was interested in. For me, there was no place for a dull and faded look in selecting antique rugs for our home.
Another part of the beauty of antique rugs is their natural fibers. I'm particularly drawn to antique rugs with silk as an integral part of the mix. I do not object to wool and cotton or even a blend. It's just that I love the sheen or shine that silk seems to bring to the work.
So, my first tip is quite simple: get a good idea of what you want before you go to make a purchase. Know the size and colors you need for your room, furniture, fixtures, and decoration scheme.
Authentic Antique Rugs
My second tip for getting antique rugs online is this: Purchase only from a reputable dealer. I fully realize we hear this all the time. I also understand one's wariness for doing business online. However, it need not be that way. Plenty of companies like eBay have made doing business online as safe, and sometimes even more so, as doing business with a local brick and mortar store. Most have a system of return and recourse where you need to be satisfied with your purchase or else you can ship it back.
I like putting my purchases on a credit card or using Paypal. This offers an added degree of protection should a dispute erupt. I say that with the understanding that not all credit card companies do this. You'll need to check your own out and see if it does.
Many online stores have a review aspect of various vendors who offer their products. It's good to take the time to read what these reviews say, particularly regarding antique rugs. There's been a bit of a history with unscrupulous dealings in the offline world and that reputation carries over to the online arena, too. If someone selling antique rugs, whether they are an individual who has come on some hard times or a changing home environment and needs to unload their antique rugs or a vendor who sells them for a living, if they won't answer your questions, then you should NOT do business with them. It is essential to get the seller to tell you the "story" of the rug you're interesting in. If they cannot give you a history of that particular antique rugs, then you should pass on purchasing it.
Inspecting Antique Rugs
Common sense is often uncommon practice. When your antique rugs arrive, take the time to do a thorough inspection right then! That's my third and final tip for this post.
Honestly, you'll want to look over your purchase carefully. Check for moth damage and obvious repair that is inferior. Is it clean? How do your antique rugs smell? Does it look like the pictures you looked at? Is your first impression disappointment? If so, it might need to go back. Rarely will you settle in to loving this often pricey addition to your home. When you hold and pull on the pile, is it stable or is it falling apart? Take the time to spread the rug out in really good lighting and do the sight, touch, smell testing using these questions along with your own in a thorough examination of your purchase. See this as sort of a final inspection before accepting the purchase.
Performing these 3 simple tips will help you avoid headaches and unwise expenditures when it comes to purchasing antique rugs online.
